Newly Engaged? Here’s How to Choose the Perfect Wedding Venue

15/1/2026

With so many options out there, choosing a venue can feel daunting. Here’s how to make it simple, stress-free, and exciting while finding one that checks all your boxes. Here’s what you should be looking and asking for:
Vision / Style

From barns and hotels to castles and beaches, there’s no shortage of stunning wedding venues to choose from. Before you overwhelm yourselves by enquiring with dozens, start by asking one simple question: does it suit us as a couple?

Whether your style is minimalist chic or rustic boho, there are venues out there that will perfectly reflect your personality and love story.

Budget

Although no one loves to talk about it, budget plays a big part in wedding planning — but it doesn’t have to be stressful. Finding a venue that fits your budget (big or small) is absolutely doable.
Do your research: browse brochures, contact venues directly, and review hire rates along with food and drink package options.

At Knightor, our food and drink packages are completely optional, allowing each couple to personalise their day with the add-ons they love most. Every quote includes a full breakdown of costs with no hidden surprises.
When enquiring, make sure you understand exactly what’s included in the hire fee — from essentials like cutlery and crockery to extras such as dedicated coordinators or guest accommodation.

Capacity

Does the venue fit your guest list? And does it have a minimum number you need to meet? These are two key questions to ask. You should find a venue that fits you — not the other way around.

Intimate weddings create a cosy, personal atmosphere with up to 30 of your nearest and dearest. Larger celebrations offer a lively, party-style setting. At Knightor, we host everything from elopements for just the two of you to full celebrations with up to 90 daytime guests and 150 evening guests.
Location

Do you want to get married close to home, or are you dreaming of a destination-style celebration where guests can make a weekend of it? Cornwall can be the perfect answer to either.

With its breathtaking beaches, countryside views, and relaxed charm, Cornwall feels like an escape abroad — without the airfare. When considering your location, look into:
  • Accessibility for guests
  • Onsite parking
  • Noise or time restrictions (due to nearby neighbours)
  • Onsite or nearby accommodation options

Communication

Good communication with your wedding venue is essential to a smooth planning process. Look for a venue team that’s flexible, responsive, and genuinely supportive — whether that means arranging evening or weekend viewings, offering virtual tours or phone calls if you’re far away, or replying promptly to your (many!) questions.

Your wedding day is one of the biggest moments of your life. The venue’s communication should reflect that care and excitement every step of the way.

Amenities

Every venue offers something different — and you might be surprised by what is (or isn’t) included. When enquiring, ask about key details such as:
  • Accommodation for you and your guests
  • Disabled access or lifts (if required)
  • A staffed and stocked bar
  • Catering options - in-house or external
  • Ceremony, bar, and live music licensing
  • Coordination support before and during your day
  • A bad-weather backup plan for outdoor spaces
Viewings / Show-arounds

Before booking, you’ll likely enquire with several venues, each with its own style and setting. Once you’ve narrowed down your shortlist, schedule in-person or virtual tours.

This approach saves time, reduces stress, and helps you make clear comparisons. Bring a list of questions, take plenty of photos, and jot down notes during each tour — it’s easy to forget details later when options start to blur together.

All of these points should help guide you toward finding your perfect venue — because every couple deserves a space that feels like “the one.”

Please note Knightor is a working winery and old farmstead so there are areas of rough ground, uneven levels and steps and thresholds to be negotiated. Visitors and guests need to wear appropriate footwear and take extra care.
