The Past 5 Years Of Knightor Winery

This May, we’re celebrating, our wedding coordinator, Isla’s five-year milestone at Knightor Winery - a perfect moment to look back on the weddings, memories and milestones we’ve shared along the way.

2021
It only feels right to start at the very beginning of the journey. 2021 was, without a doubt, an interesting year. We began in the midst of a Covid lockdown — a challenging time for everyone, especially our wedding couples, many of whom had to reschedule their special day or significantly reduce guest numbers due to government restrictions.

Like so many others, we had to adapt to a rapidly changing world. But through it all, we made the most of what we coulddo. Once restrictions lifted, the year quickly became one of our busiest yet, as we worked through the backlog caused by Covid — hosting up to four weddings a week every week .

It was also a year of growth for the team. Liam, now our Operations Manager, was then our Wet Salesman and Front of House Manager. Elena, our Wedding and Events Coordinator, ran her very first wedding. And, of course, it was the year Isla joined the team.

2022
Following on from 2021, 2022 was another year of playing catch-up with Covid-postponed weddings. It became a record-breaking year for us, with an incredible 110 weddings hosted at Knightor.

It was also one of the warmest years on record, which proved a blessing not only for our wedding season but for our vineyards too. The conditions led to an exceptional harvest, making it a standout year for our winery team. It was also the perfect time to celebrate a milestone for David, our Head Winemaker, who marked ten years at Knightor.

There were big moments for the team as well. Elena stepped up from Wedding Assistant to Wedding and Events Coordinator, taking on an even bigger role in bringing our couples’ days to life. Meanwhile, we said a fond farewell to Liam, who made the exciting move from Cornwall to London. After six years as part of the Knightor team, he joined Humble Grape — though, as you’ll soon find out, his goodbye was short lived!

2023
After leaving in September 2022, we welcomed Liam back with open arms in April 2023 — it seems he must have missed us! He returned in a new role as Sales Manager, helping to take our wines further afield than ever before.

It was also a record-breaking year for vineyards across the country, with 2023 becoming England’s best-ever harvest, producing an incredible 21.6 million bottles of wine. Here at Knightor, we processed a record 94 tonnes of grapes — a milestone moment for our winery team.

Weddings also had a fantastic year. We were honoured to win our first-ever Simply Weddings Award, being named Best Wedding Venue in Cornwall. It was a proud moment for the whole team. Isla also stepped into a new chapter, moving from Front of House Team Manager into the role of Wedding Assistant.

2024
After the incredible year we had in 2023, the celebrations continued across the whole site. Liam, in his words, began “taking on the world” — representing Knightor on an international stage. We exhibited at the British Embassy in Copenhagen and the Ambassador’s Residence in Stockholm, which led to us exporting our wines to Denmark. We also showcased our wines at Wine Vision in Belgrade alongside the British Serbian Chamber of Commerce.

It was also a huge year of recognition for our wines. We were proud to win Glass of Bubbly’s World’s Finest Sparkling Wine with our Blanc de Blancs 2015, alongside receiving two gold medals and one silver for our other sparkling wines.

Within the wedding’s team, there were significant moments too. Elena stepped into her role as Wedding and Events Manager, while Isla ran her very first wedding and became a Wedding and Events Coordinator — helping to shape the team dynamic you see today.

2025

Entering 2025, Liam set his sights on conquering another Scandinavian market, and we were proud to begin exporting our wines to Norway. It was also the year we released our very own Knightor Brandy — ten years in the making and an instant hit, especially over the festive period.

For the second time in three years, we were honoured to be named Simply Weddings’ Best Wedding Venue in Cornwall — a real highlight for the whole team. We also had the added excitement of both Elena and Isla being named finalists for Wedding Planner of the Year.

There were more reasons to celebrate within the team too. Halla, our Marketing Manager, marked her tenth year at Knightor, while Naomi joined us as the newest member of the weddings team, stepping into the role of Wedding and Events Assistant.

2026 so far and yet to come...

2026 has already had a strong start, with a number of improvements taking place across the site. Some were planned upgrades, while others came as a result of the rather unwelcome storm damage we experienced in January. The Manor House has had a refresh, with new carpets bringing a lovely new feel, and we’ve also upgraded the chairs in our weddings barn.

It’s set to be an exciting season ahead, with some fantastic moments on the horizon. Isla will be running her 50th wedding, Elena her 150th, and Liam will be celebrating ten years at Knightor (if we don’t count his eight-month hiatus!).

We’re so excited for what the rest of the year has in store — from new wine releases to a busy calendar of events. We can’t wait to welcome you to Knightor very soon.
