Cellar Stories: Trevannion

2/8/2024

One of our most perfumed wines, named after the Trevannion family who once owned Knightor Manor, in addition to Gorran Castle and nearby Caerhays Castle. We hope to show you the differences in our 2 vintages plus provide some pairings for this food friendly wine.
Knightor Trevannion 2023
We do not make our Trevannion blend every year, as we require the grapes to be at their best and really ripe. Occasionally, the Trevannion is a blend of multiple varieties but the key grape variety is always Siegerrebe - a very unusual German variety that is amber pink in colour, ripens early, and is plagued by pests, that are attracted to the super sweet, richly flavoured berries. Birds love them as do badgers, wasps, flies and of course - vineyard workers! To achieve a great wine the grapes need to be left on the vine to fully ripen as this is when the aromas are at their most intense. Due to the risks of depredation from pests plus potential rot and moulds attacking the grapes, we are not always able to release a Trevannion.
Knightor Siegerrebe Grapes
Trevannion 2022 is subtle, delicately perfumed, with aromas of rose petal, elderflower and grapefruit, the palate is dry and peachy with a gentle spice towards the finish. We often recommend this wine alongside roast white meat and fish. An excellent pairing that we serve at Knightor is with BBQ glazed pork belly, but it goes equally as well with roast duck, baked salmon or quiche. The trick with the 2022 is to pair it with something a little fatty to allow the crispness of the wine to cut through.

Trevannion 2023 is for those that like big bold aromas and flavours. It will probably surprise you just how powerful, this wine is. If you were to blind taste it, England probably wouldn't be the country of origin you were thinking of! Tropical and spicy, with aromas of lychee, turkish delight and grapefruit, the palate is less dry than the 2022 with just a touch of sweetness and a ton of tropical fruit. It may sound unusual, but we would recommend this wine with something with a touch of spice to it. Think Teriyaki Salmon, Thai green curry, Moroccan tagine or honey roast vegetables. Perhaps just stay clear of that super hot Indian curry!

To sample our Trevannion, enjoy a visit to our winery near Trethurgy for a guided tour or tasting.

  • Wine Selection: Opt for a curated selection of wines that compliment your menu choices. We can help you select the perfect white, red, rosé and sparkling wines from our own collection, ensuring the highest quality.
  • Buy in Bulk: Take advantage of discounts on bulk purchases. By ordering larger quantities, you can often secure a better price per bottle, keeping your overall costs down.
Knightor Cornish Spritz
Our signature serve: The Cornish Spritz. A favourite option of our wedding couples for reception cocktails.
Avoid these common oversights to ensure your drink service runs smoothly and stays within budget:
  • Don’t Overcomplicate: Offering too many drink options can overwhelm your guests and inflate costs. Stick to a few well-chosen beverages.
  • Avoid Last-Minute Orders: Plan ahead and place your orders early to ensure availability.
  • Don’t Ignore Pairings: Poorly paired drinks can detract from your carefully planned menu. Take the time to select beverages that complement your food choices.
